First Drop in the Bucket

TUESDAY, JUNE 19, 2012

Well, oh well the well is complete! Having finished off the pulley draw system, getting the welding and cover custom made, Deus and his team handed over the well to one of our staff members Matthias to have the auspicious honour of drawing the first bucket of potable water out of the well built alongside the main road leading from the beach to the local village.

Two passing local fisherman, intrigued by the activity, came through for a closer inspection. As can be seen the well works on a pulley system, with a weight attached to the bucket to allow the plastic to sink when it hits the water, 21 metres below the land level.

The bucket yields 10 litres of water, and as can be seen by the pictures, clean and ready to drink based on the quality drawn from the water table below.

This water will be primarily used by passing locals, as well as many of the fisherman who will be able to draw water for cleaning their catch on the way back to the village from the ocean. A small initiative that will yield sustainable water for years to come for the surrounding area, well done to Deus and the team for the successful completion of the project.

Maji safi yanapatikana karibu! (Clean water available you are welcome!)
